CECAFA Prepared To Hold Elective General Assembly, Says Musonye

The elective General Assembly of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) will take place at the Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi Kampala, Uganda on Wednesday December 18th 2019.

“I can confirm that the Assembly will take place on Wednesday and Presidents of different Federations around the region have already arrived,” said Nicholas Musonye, the CECAFA Secretary General.

The Assembly will also be elective with a new President, two Vice Presidents and Committee members being elected.

“We shall use the newly adopted statues for Zones as recommended by the Confederation of African Football to elect new office bearers,” added Musonye.

The new Statute allows for the President, two Vice Presidents and two Committee members to be elected. According to the new statue only Federation Presidents are eligible to contest to be members of the committee in the Zones including CECAFA.

Presidents of the Uganda FA, Moses Magogo,  Souleiman Hassan Waberi (Djibouti Football Federation) and Abdiqani Said from Somalia who are executive members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will not contest to take up the CECAFA executive positions.

Former Sudan Football Association (SFA)’s President Mutasim Gafaar’s term as CECAFA President ended in November 2019.

South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) President Francis Amin Michael is one of the candidates who is eyeing for the Vice President position on Wednesday 18th December 2019. Amin will be the first South Sudanese FA chief to have taken up a role in the CECAFA high office if elected into the Vice Presidency office since its admission in 2012.
