The 8th edition of the Kenya Premier League Slum Derby will see two South Sudanese national team players face each other on Sunday 12th January 2020; this will be the first time the two will be meeting in a Kenya Premier League derby.

Kuol John Chol of Kariobangi Sharks will be facing newly acquired former Atlabara FC forward Lual Daniel Gumnok a.k.a Poisonous 9, that if their respective coaches William Muluya and Salim Ali go for them to either start or come off the bench for their clubs during the match proceedings.

The 2019/2020 season 8th edition of the derby will be played at Moi International Sports Center on Sunday 12th January 2020 at 3:00pm East Africa Time.

Chol’s Kariobangi Sharks goes into this derby at position 12th with 13 points after breaking their winless ran with a 1-0 win over Bandari FC with the 9th minute solo goal from Kevintom Machika’s on Wednesday 8th January 2020, meanwhile Dani’s Mathare United FC are position 10 with 21 points after suffering their 4th defeat of the season with an away 2-1 loss at the hands of Western Stima on 8th January 2020, Mathare’s goal was scored by Tyson Otieno on the 4th minutes of the game.

It should be noted that Kuol John Chol joined Kariobangi Sharks after an impressive 6 months ball display at back line in Chemilil Sugar FC, when he joined from Kakamega Secondary School. Meanwhile 17 years old Lual Daniel Gumnok joined Mathare United from Atlabara FC as a free agent after impressive performances in Spain while on trials.

Both players have been active participants in the South Sudan National Team’s call up with Kuol John being part of Coach James Simon Yor’s squad that eliminated Uganda U-23 in 2018 in an Africa Cup of Nations U-23 preliminary qualifiers at Juba Stadium, meanwhile Lual Daniel was also part of Coach James Simon Yor’s squad that made it into the quarter finals of the 2019 CECAFA U-20 Tournament held in Uganda.

Recent statistics show Kuol’s Kariobangi Sharks having an upper hand in the Slum Derby with Sharks wining 2 in the recent meetings, and Mathare United FC wining once, there has been three draws with the recent one being on Saturday 28th September 2019.

But then, Kariobangi Sharks should be cautious considering that they will be meeting vengeful Mathare United FC who lost 2-1 away to Western Stima FC on Wednesday as Machakos fans brace themselves for a thrill ‘Slum Derby’ on Sunday 12th January 2020.
