CECAFA Confirms Auka Gecheo As New Executive Director

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed John Auka Gacheo as the Regional football body new Executive Director replacing long serving Nicholas Musonye.  

In an event which took place in the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) offices in Dar Es Salaam, the outgoing General Secretary to CECAFA said he is privileged to leave the Executive Director office to a sound mind after working for 21 years. 

Mr Musonye immediately handed over office to Mr Gacheo who assumes office with immediate effect and will start with the task of drawing schedules for the Nine tournaments in the 2020 regional calendar, has promised to work hard to preserve the gains made so far as he champions new growth.

The post of the CECAFA Executive Director was formed in 2019, to replace that of the  Secretary-General (SG) during CECAFA General Assembly in Kampala, Uganda.

It should be noted that John Auka Gacheo had previously served as East Africa General Manager for Television giants Supersport, during his tenure, Auka made SuperSport as the biggest contributors to Kenyan sports through their acquisition of broadcast rights, sponsorship of local sports and training and development of both administrators and participants in various sporting codes.

The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), President Francis Amin Michael  is also the First Vice President of CECAFA.

The CECAFA football regional body leadership is headed by Tanzania FA President Wallace Karai and Francis Amin Paul as his First Vice President with Esayas Jira of Ethiopia as the 2nd Vice President and The President of the Eritrea National Football Federation, Abraham Esayas and the Rwanda FA boss Gen. Sekamana Jean Damascène are the two Board members.
