SSFA Suspends National And International Football Games With South Sudan Cup To Be Played Without Fans

The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), which is the national football governing body, has on Sunday 15th March 2020 called off all the local league games and International football games in the country until further notice due to Corona Virus.

According to SSFA, the South Sudan Cup 2019/2020 will be the only competition to continue and all matches will be played without fans, it should be noted that five teams including Rabita FC Juba, Nile City FC Yambio, Salaam FC Aweil, Blue Star FC Tonj and Al Gadesia FC Renk are the clubs to compete on which club will be crowned this years champions and will also represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round. Aweil United FC of Aweil will take on Al Rabita FC of Juba in the opening match while Al Gadesia FC of Renk will take on Nile City FC of Yambio both games will be at Munuki Playing Ground.

The FA President of SSFA, Mr. Francis Amin also said the Association’s decision will affect the renovation of Juba Football Stadium and Buluk Playing ground because the construction materials are imported from China and Italy. China and Italy are some of the countries with restricted travels.
Meanwhile, the representative from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Loui Dhow said the ministry has undertaken measures to prevent the outbreak, assuring that flights from and to the affected countries are also suspended till further notice.

Mr. Amin has also called upon South Sudanese Professional Players in Malaysia, Australia, Uganda, Khartoum, Tanzania, Czech Republic , Kenya, South Sudan and South Korea to take care of themselves and avoid any gatherings due to the Corona Virus.
It should be noted that South Sudan was suppose to play Uganda in the Total Africa Cup of Nation 2021 group B double headed game on the 28th and 31st at Mandela National Stadium and Nyayo National Stadium in Kenya respectively however the game has been called off indefinitely following CAF communication to all the affiliated Football Associations and Federations due to the Corona Virus
The COVID-19 which has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has seen many sporting activities in Europe and most parts of the world postponed.
