Football clubs under the Rumbek Local Football Association welcomed the decision by the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Board to cancel all leagues across the country.
The administrators and coaches from first and second division clubs in Rumbek, confirmed their acceptance on a live interview with Good News Radio on Saturday, during a sports hour program.
Ghazal United FC Manager, Mr. Mapuor Marial whose club plays in the first division commended the SSFA for prioritizing safety of the people and urged all clubs to accept the decision in good faith, a feeling shared by Chirilo Majok, manager of Lakes United FC a second division club which at the time of league cancellation was in a favorable position to earn promotion to the first division.
Coaches from both first and second division clubs also supported the decision with Coach Rajaf Abdallah of Zalan calling the decision “beneficial to humanity”. He urged all the players, fans and the football fraternity to follow the precautionary measures and guidelines laid out by the ministry of health and WHO. Other coaches to have commended the decision includes, Marial Andrew (Holy Family FC), Mawuom Mating (Sacred Heart) and Sergio Dut (Future Heart).
Up until the suspension of the league, Zalan FC were leading the table in the first division with thirty (30) points followed by Akuac United with twenty (20) points. At the relegation zone was Ghazal United and Sacred Heart with 14 and eight points respectively.
South Sudan has suspended all public gathering and events due to the Covid19 pandemic.
