The Federations of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has named four (4) South Sudanese basketball players into their strong 18-man Uganda provisional squad for the upcoming FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers that will be played from November 27-29 in Alexandria, Egypt.
The three out of four players who are having their trade with Uganda Canons, had outstanding performances in their season last year in the topflight league in Uganda guiding the UCU Canons to the Play-Offs Finals despite losing 4-3 to eventual champions City Oilers, has since earned the respect of basketball enthusiasts in the East African nation.
The four boys included Deng Geu,David Deng Kongor, Geoffrey Soro, Titus Lual Odeke.
With the South Sudan Basketball Federation yet to release their team squad, the enterprising Titus Lual Odeke will be hoping to make a decent case for themselves as they have the potential to be the core of the next generation of Uganda basketball national team.
Geoffrey Soro who has roots from South Sudan and playing his trade with Cobra Sport Club of Juba will bring a touch of experience to the Ugandan side while new faces like Innocent Ochera and Bbale are expected to give the team a new look.
It should be noted that South Sudan has so many basketball players across the continent and around the world who are doing very well and playing at the highest level so the future is very bright for South Sudanese basketball as long as the players will keep loyalty to the national team.
Uganda were drawn with Egypt, Morocco and the winner of the Pre-Qualifiers tournament set to take place later this month in Yaounde, Cameroon.
