The South Sudan national football team The “Bright Stars” of 30 contingent composed of players, SSFA administrator and coaching staff landed safely on Friday 16th October, 2020 at 4:00pm from Cameroon enroute Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa aboard Ethiopian Airlines following a successful outing against the Cameroon Intermediate team.
The Delegation was received by the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) President Mr. Francis Amin Michael and Gola Boyoi, the President of South Sudan National Youth Union.
Mr. Francis welcomed and congratulated the team for their outstanding performance, saying that the team will continue with training on Monday afternoon ahead of the AFCON Qualification match against Uganda next month. He urges the citizens to assemble their encouragement and support for the National Team.
On his part, the President of National Youth Union, Gola Boyoi also welcomed the team and applauded them for their marvelous performance. He expressed his happiness for the players’ achievement, assuring that his office is always ready to support the National Team. He added that the National Team requires entire citizens’ support to motivate them to continue raising the country’s flag higher.
The Bright Stars in a warm match lost to PWD Bamenda by 3-0, however held the national CHAN team of Cameroon to a two goalless arranged fixtures, with Gor Mahia FC forward making his debut for the national team.
Head coach Ashu Cyprian Besong who applauded his troops for the efforts and hardwork put up while in Cameroon will give the players a break of three days before regrouping ahead of the international friendly game against Zambia and Ethiopia on the 24th and 26th October 2020.
Meanwhile, Bright Stars’ Captain, Peter Manyang Maker appreciated SSFA for receiving them back home. He says they played well in the last two friendly matches against the Cameroonians, however, they failed to score, promising to improve in their next matches.
Besong has also urged the players to keep working harder if they are to be considered for the upcoming 2022 AFCON qualification double header against Uganda in November 2020.
South Sudan will be hosted away by Uganda on 12th November 2020 at St Mary’s Stadium before traveling to Kenya for the home match a few days later.
