AFCON2021 Qualifiers: McKinstry Set To Announce Squad To Face South Sudan

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has confirmed that national team head coach Johnathan McKnistry is set to announce his latest Uganda Cranes squad on Thursday 22nd October, 2020.

The Uganda Cranes are set to continue their AFCON 2021 Qualification Campaign with a double header tie against South Sudan in November 2020. Uganda were last in November, beating Malawi 2-0 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole to remain top of Group B after two matches, and McKinstry is expected to name some new faces in his group.

Players that might not miss the Northern Irish list will likely be South End United’s Elvis Bwomono, Reading’s Jayden Onen, Portugal based left back Alex Kakuba and Omeä’s Alexis Bbaka. All the above players were part of the national team camping in Dubai earlier this month. 

Bevis Mugabi will probably be the notable name missing ahead of Thursday’s announcement after having dislocated his shoulder in training at his Motherwell club last week and will be out for upto 6 weeks.

Denis Onyango and Derrick Nsibambi who missed out on the Dubai training camp due to club engagement and isolation will likely be included when the Cranes gaffers name his squad.

Uganda is set to host the Bright Stars of South Sudan on the 14th November 2020 at St’ Mary’s Stadium, Kitende before traveling away to Kenya for their away match aganist group B bottom rockers South Sudan on the 16th November 2020. 

Uganda is pooled in group B alongside Burkina Faso, Malawi and South Sudan and has so far collected 4 points in 2 games. (0-0) against Burkina Faso and 2-0 win over Malawi.
