National Under Twenty Put Four Past 2020 South Sudan Cup Holders Al Rabita FC

The South Sudan national U-20 players continue to sharpen their appetite in front of the goal posts just five days after being summoned by head coach James Simon Yor to prepare ahead of this year’s Total Africa Cup of Nations Zonal Championships Qualifiers.

The Bright Young Stars scored four goals to beat South Sudan Cup holders Al Rabita FC by 4-2 at Buluk Training Center in their third locally arranged friendlies by the team’s technical bench. 

Mathare United FC forward Daniel Lual Gumnok opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, before Uganda Revenue Authority FC target Wijo Taban made it 2-0 in the 16th minute. Kun Garang pulled one for Al Rabita FC in the 23rd minute of the game to make it 2-1, however an own goal from Augustine Akoch in the 38th minute made it 2-2. Before the first half break, Vipers Sports Club right back Dhata Joseph Stephen made it 3-2 in the 45th minute of the game with a fine assist from Wijo Taban before the break. 

James Simon Yor who came into the second half of the game with many changes introduced Arua Hill Sports Club tastimatic forward Ronald Innocent Midia for Mathare United FC forward Lual Daniel Gumnok, a change which yielded fruits as Innocent made 4-2 after Philiph Angelo Taban’s shoot was punched into his midst by the Al Rabita FC goalkeeper. 

The U-20 team now has been trimmed on Wednesday 28th October 2020, evening from the 44 provisional man squad to only 30 players, the team now consist of 3 goalkeepers and 27 on pitch players.  

It should be noted that The Qualifiers competition will be held in Tanzania from 22nd November to December 6th 2020. South Sudan is being pooled in group B alongside Burundi, Eritrea and Uganda. Two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals. The African Nations Championships, under the age of twenty and under seventeen will be played in Mauritania.
