AFCON U-17 Zonal Qualifiers: South Sudan U-17 Team Intensify Preparation Ahead of CECAFA Regional Tournament

The South Sudan national football U-17 team through their technical team have intensified training at Buluk Training Center as it enters its 4th day. 

There are currently 33 Squad members of the National U-17 team. The Team will have their today’s Sunday Training at 3:00pm. Only 20 will be required in the final list to travel to Rwanda.

South Sudan National Team (Bright Stars) U-17 who are training as a preparation for the forthcoming CECAFA  U-17 Regional Tournament, which will lead to Total African Cup of Nations U-17 next year in Mauritania.

The National Team (Bright Stars) was grouped in Group A together with Rwanda as host of the competition and Eritrea. The tournament will kick off on 13th to 28th December in the Rwandan Capital Kigali. One team from each group will qualify for semifinals in addition to the best friendlies.

Confirmed Nations for CECAFA U-17: 

The U-17 Technical Team

Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and hosts Rwanda.

It should be noted that the South Sudan U-17 team took part for the first time in the 2018 CECAFA U-17 tournament held in Tanzania, registering only one win and losing three. 

The team which was playing without a notable goalkeeper had an pitch player Andrew Lojore being deployed as a goalkeeper. 

The Young Bright Stars opened their group B with a 2-1 win against Djibouti, before going on to lose to Kenya 4-0, Uganda 6-1, and Ethiopia 5-1 under the stewardship of Bilal Felix Komoyange. They finished the tournament with only 3 points. 

Uganda U-17 were crowned champions after beating Ethiopia 3-1 on 26 August 2018 and went on to represent CECAFA region in the Winner qualified for 2019 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, held in Tanzania.
