The Bright Stars of South Sudan have maintained position 163 in the world and 43 in Africa on the first FIFA Rankings of 2021 released on Thursday February 18, 2021.
The Ashu Cyprian Besong coached side maintained the position during the last rankings released on December 10, 2020..
The Bright Stars last played an AFCON 2021 Qualifiers matches on 12 and 16 November 2020 as they lost to Uganda 1-0 at St Mary’s Stadium before condemning the Uganda Cranes into a 1-0 win at Nyayo National Stadium in the ongoing 2021 CAF AFCON Qualifiers.
However many stakeholders have attributed the Bright Stars static position to the drop in the number of games played within the period of COVID-19 where most of the teams have been dormant since 2019 and haven’t played many games due to Covid-19.
The South Sudan Bright Stars 2021 AFCON Qualifiers Group B opponents Burkina Faso and Malawi have also maintained positions 58 and 123 respectively while second placed Uganda’s Cranes have moved four steps down from position 79 to 83.
The Bright Stars who under coach Ashu Cyprian Besong have started training and preparations with the locally based players ahead of the Flames of Malawi game on March , 24 2021, will be looking forward to get results from this fixture as they look forward to getting a new FIFA ranking come April 2021.
South Sudan is set to take Malawi in the Sudanese capital Khartoum as the ongoing works at the Juba Stadium is yet to be finalized.
