The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has confirmed the appointment of the referee to handle the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers tie between South Sudan and Malawi.
The said match which is scheduled for Tuesday 24th March, 2021 Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, Sudan will be handled by Kenya’s Anthony Juma Ogwayo as the center referee and will be assisted by his counterparts, Oliver Omondi Odhiambo and Joshua Ocheing Achila as the first and second assistants referees respectively.
Brooke Philip , who is also from Kenya will be the 4th official while Tanzanian Ahmed Iddi Mgoyi will be the game’s match commissioner. Ugandan Abdul Lukooya Sekabira will be the Security officer.
Sudan’s Isam Shaaban will be the General Coordinator of the match which will also be played in Khartoum, Sudan.
Center referee Mr Anthony Juma Ogwayo is an experienced CAF and FIFA referee who has featured for so many games in a recent CAF and CECAFA assignments with in the CAFCC game involving Uganda’s KCCA FC and AS Kigali of Rwanda on January 6, 2021 at St Mary’s stadium Kitende.
South Sudan sit bottom in group B with 3 points in four games played so far and will need a win against 4th place Malawi who are currently having 4 points to enlighten their chance of qualifying to AFCON 2021 which will be hosted by Cameroon early next year.
A week ago, South Sudan head coach Ashu Cyprian Besong called up 23 locally based players to prepare ahead of the Flames of Malawi meeting, a win for the Bright Stars will boost their chances of qualifying for the Total Africa Cup of Nations 2021.
