The Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the CECAFA zone will take place August 28th to September 9th in Nairobi, Kenya.
Auka Gecheo, the Executive Director of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) confirmed the new dates on Tuesday night.
“We have finally agreed with the Football Kenya Federation on the new dates and the qualifiers will take place. We shall also re-do the draw to have two pools with four teams each,” added Gecheo.
In the earlier draw conducted last month three teams were placed in each of the three groups. However, Rwanda’s Scadinavian WFC pulled out leaving one pool with two teams.
Gecheo said that the matches will be played at both Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium.
The Yei Joint Stars FC who will be representing South Sudan in the have been having continues training in Juba, coach Sony Harriet Alfred has also been arranging for friendly games as part will used to asses the fitness of the team.
The teams that will battle to try and qualify for the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League include; Vihiga Queens (Kenya), Lady Doves WFC (Uganda), PVP FC (Burundi), Simba Queens (Tanzania), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan), New Generation (Zanzibar), FAD (Djibouti).
