As teams within the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) region are preparing heavily ahead of the Total Africa Cup of Nations U-20 Regional in November 2020, the Bright Young Stars are not exceptional as they have already registered two wins in a locally arranged practising games.
In their first practicing match on Monday 26th October 2020, the Bright Young Stars U-20 beat Juba based Amarat United FC by two goals to zero. Future Stars Football Academy (FSFA) left back who captianed the team Daniel Boso Benjamin scored the first goal on a penlty spot after an unprofessional tackle on the U-20 forward as they went into the half time break.
The second half which was totally a set of eleven players including William Gama Emmanuel, Dhata Stephen Joseph, Wijo Taban, Daniel Lual Gumnok, Innocent Ronald Media, Emmanuel Kenyi, Wayi Godfrey, Debbo Julius Moro, Khemis Atari, Loki Emmanuel Peter etc changed the whole phase of the game as fans were left with lots of juvelations because of an amazing displays from the young boys. The atmosphere made the Skyscrapers conceeding their second goal through the 18 years old Mathare United FC Daniel Lual Gumnok ending the match in a 2-0 to the national U-20 team.
On Tuesday 27th October, 2020 morning, the U-20 went on to out muscled the South Sudan Cup holders and national CAF Confederations Cup representatives Al Rabita FC by 3-2 with goals from Jowang Emmanuel Kaka, Loki Emmanuel Peter and Dhata Stephen Joseph all on the score sheet.
The Youngsters are in their preparation ahead of CECAFA regional competition this month in Tanzania.
Coach Simon James Yor initially released a total of 44 man provisional squad, with 14 players (Professionals) playing in Uganda, 3 from Kenya and 2 from Sudan respectively. The squad will then be trimmed to a 22 man squad before leaving for Tanzania.
It should be noted that during the CECAFA Executive Committee meeting held in Arusha on Saturday 10th October 2020, the decision to go ahead with the U20 AFCON Qualifiers was reached. To this effect, the CECAFA Secretariat has already received participation confirmation for the AFCON U17 Qualifiers from the following F.As
The EXCO meeting resolved that the AFCON U20 Qualifiers will be staged on 22nd November – 6th December 2020 in Tanzania. Somalia, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya are the regional countries to take part in the tournament.
Both the U-17 and U-20 Qualifier Tournaments will feature 10 teams which will be in two pools. After the pool stages, the top two teams will proceed to the semifinals. The Secretariat will announce the dates for the draw of the Tournament which will be done virtually.
