CAF CONFEDERATIONS CUP 2020/2021: Atlabara FC Juba To Battle Sudanese Side Al Ahly Merowe

South Sudan Cup 2021 winners Atlabara FC Juba will face Sudanese middle side team Al Ahly Morawe in the forthcoming 2021/22 CAF Confederations Cup Preliminary Round.

The Bara Boyz will host the first leg in between 10-12 of September, 2021 before heading to Khartoum for the return leg between 17-19 of September 2021.

If Atlabara FC Juba makes their way past Al Ahly Morawe of Sudan, they will then progress to face Kenya giants Gor Mahia FC in the second preliminary round. The CAF Confederations Cup Preliminary draw was held on Friday 13th August 2021.

Atlabara FC Juba is yet to confirm which pitch they will be using as their home pitch since the reconstruction and renovation of Juba National Stadium is still ongoing and according to reports, it will be ready by October or November 2021.

The yellow and blue club as identified by their jersey colors beat Salam FC Kuajok 2-0 in the finals of the South Sudan played at Buluk Training Center Mandela Malish became the hero after tapping in the two goals of the day.

Atlabara Fc Juba have been one of the dominant clubs that have represented the South Sudan in continental competition in many occasions including CAF Champions league and have since gone on to face Berekum Chelsea of Ghana in CAFCL 2014 (2-2) in aggregate, Police FC Rwanda in CAFCC 2016 (4-3) in aggregate,  Cotonsport FC of Cameroon in CAFCL 2017 (7-2) in aggregate, Al Ahly SC of Egypt in CAFCL (13-0) in aggregate.

The nearest spot for the Bara Boyz to make it to the next round of the continental competition was in 2014 being their first appearance as Berekum Chelsea had to beat them on spot kicks 5-4 after the return leg which was played in Khartoum ended in 2-0 win for the team, with Bony Martin Wani and Adams own goal counted on the score sheet.

Al Ahly Merowe who came into the Sudanese top flight league in the 2019/2020 season are currently not doing well at the ongoing 2020/2021 Sudan Premier League season, sitting at number 11, with 33 points out of 27 games played so far, the Merowe side went on to lose 10, wining 8 and drawing 9 of their league matches, the team has also concede 24 goals and scoring only 19.

As this will be the first time Al Ahly Merowe will be taking part in a continental competition, they will face a bigger competition from the continental dominant Atlabara FC Juba.

In this year’s CAF Inter-Club competition, South Sudan will not be represented in CAF Champions League as the league was interrupted by COVID_19 pandemic and hence national Champions League could not be initiated by the South Sudan Football Association in that period.
