Recovered Okello To Replace Aluk As Besong Makes A Last Minute Squad Changes

South Sudan head coach Ashu Cyprian Besong has made a last minute change to his squad as recovered Tito Okello Odong steps up to replace Aluk Akech Mabior due to a fever the stiker developed just a day after the announcement of the 23 man squad.

The Gor Mahia FC, Kenya forward initially dropped from the squad to be traveling to face Jordan in the preliminary round of the FIFA Arab Cup, as signs were he was not going to recover on time to be among the travelling 39 men contingent. 

“We are withdrawing Aluk from the squad due to a fever he experienced in the last 12 hours, we took him for some check up but was found to have Malaria non reactive, however the doctors have  recommended him some drugs as our team doctors also monitors his progress” says one of the team officials.

Okello, who plays for Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC “Kagalo” netted the only goal when the Bright Star beat Uganda 1-0 in the group B Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier last year in Kenya at Nyayo National Stadium. 

The forward was in the initial list of players dropped including Lual Daniel Gumnok, (Mathare United FC), Wani Ivan Marcello (Busoga United FC, Uganda, Jackson Morgan Obede (Perth SC, Australia) and goalkeeper Mawien Khon Arop, Ghazala United, Kuajok South Sudan, Agot Garang Ngor, Bul James Anyang both from Koryom FC, Bor South Sudan. 

The Bright Star will face Jordan on Monday June 21st, 2021 at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha, Qatar in the FIFA Arab Cup one leg preliminary round with the winner joining teams in group E. 

This is South Sudan’s final squad after the last minute changes.
